January 3, 2012
Dear Friends,
The Central Brevard Sharing Center is proud to be hosting the 2012 Crop
Walk to Stop Hunger. For more than 40 years Church World Services has
helped over 3,200 local food pantries, food banks, and meal sites throughout
the United States. Our mission like theirs is a simple one, stop hunger
in the world by starting here in our own backyard.
Here at the Central Brevard Sharing Center, we served over 49,000 meals
last year and provided an average of 11 tons of food per month through
our emergency food pantry. These needs have continued to increase dramatically
in our basic programs. Last year alone we helped over 3,000 first time
clients. The Crop Walk is an opportunity to take direct action to stop
hunger in our community.
This years Crop Walk will be held on Sunday March 18, 2012 at 2:00 P.M.
It will start at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. This year’s
walk will be on the beach and along side highway A1A.
An organizational meeting will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday January
14th, 2012 at the Central Brevard Sharing Center’s Community Dining
Room. At the meeting we will discuss the walk route, hand out sign-up
sheets and other promotional materials, and answer any questions that
you may have.
This year more than ever we need your help! It is a great opportunity
for your congregation, especially the youth to step up to the plate
and help individuals and families in need in our community. Seventy
five percent of the funds raised will go to Church World Service. The
remaining twenty five percent goes directly to the Central Brevard Sharing
Center. We are hoping that with your participation, this event will
be fun and rewarding for all. Thank you for your time and I hope to
see you at the Crop Walk 2012.
Sincerely,
David Brubaker
Vice President
